Next week (September 27th) marks the release of the first two Vestron Video Collector’s Series Blu-rays from Lionsgate with Chopping Mall and Blood Diner. Bloody Disgusting has received an exclusive clip from the Blu-ray special features to share with readers. This particular clip features producer Jimmy Maslon discussing the doo-wop soundtrack from the film.
For those unfamiliar with Blood Diner I think it’s best described as an oddball, cheesy tribute to Herschell Gordon Lewis’ Blood Feast. The doo-wop soundtrack is not something often seen in horror films but it serves a rather important role in Blood Diner, largely because it helps to set the tone. Blood Diner isn’t meant to be taken too seriously and instead it should be enjoyed as a fun romp about cannibalism. The doo-wop used helps give the film that lighter, fun nature.
One really fascinating tidbit Maslon shares in this clip is what he paid to license each song – $100 each. As Maslon points out that’s extremely cheap and likely not something you’d be able to do today. Check out the clip below for a little taste of the feast Lionsgate will be serving with the Blood Diner Blu-ray on September 27th.
