Well Go USA was originally set to release Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein‘s sci-fi thriller Freaks in August, but we can exclusively report today that it’s now arriving on September 13.
Yes, that’s a Friday the 13th. Even better!
We’ve also exclusively scored the debut for artist Christopher Shy‘s art for Freaks, which you’ll find below. As always, Shy’s watercolor approach makes for one hell of a poster!
Emile Hirsch stars alongside Bruce Dern, Grace Park, Amanda Crew and Lexy Kolker in a film BD’s Rafael Motamayor called “claustrophobic and twisty” in his review.
Awarding the film 4/5 skulls, Motamayor wrote: “Freaks feels like an even more grounded, small-scale version of the X-Men, a sci-fi film filled with surprises, a message about parenthood and wanting to keep your child safe and isolated from the world, and a future star in Lexy Kolker.”
In this science-fiction thriller, a disturbed father (Hirsch) locks his bold 7-year-old daughter (Kolker) in a house, warning her of grave dangers outside. But the mysterious Mr. Snowcone (Dern) convinces the girl to escape and join him on a quest for family, freedom, and revenge.
