‘Hokum’ Exclusive Clip Introduces the Film’s Terrifying First Scare for Adam Scott

Hokum first scare is a doozy in exclusive clip

Reclusive novelist Ohm Bauman (Adam Scott) is already haunted before he sets off for Ireland, in our exclusive clip previewing the first terrifying scare that opens Hokum.

You’ll want to check into writer/director Damian McCarthy‘s hotel of horror when Hokum releases in theaters on May 1, 2026.

Watch the bone-chilling clip below that makes a strong case against the vulnerability of open floorplans and helps inspire Ohm Bauman’s retreat to a remote Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes.

Once there, the staff’s tales of an ancient witch haunting the honeymoon suite take hold of his mind. Disturbing visions and a shocking disappearance draw Ohm into a nightmarish confrontation with the darkest corners of his past.

Peter Coonan (“The Alienist: Angel of Darkness”), David Wilmot (“Station Eleven”), Florence Ordesh (“Departure”), Michael Patric (“Frontier”), Will O’Connell (“Game of Thrones”), Brendan Conroy (“Bodkin”), and Austin Amelio (“The Walking Dead”) round out the cast.

Spooky Pictures’ Roy Lee (Weapons) & Steven Schneider (Insidious) produce alongside Image Nation’s Derek Dauchy (Late Night with the Devil), Tailored Film’s Ruth Treacy, Julianne Forde, & Mairtín de Barra, and Cweature Features’ Ken Kao & Josh Rosenbaum.

I wrote in my 4.5-skull review out of SXSW, “Hokum so thoroughly invests you in Ohm’s off-kilter quest, one that keeps raising new intrigues and questions, and in a way that’s not easily predictedThe full scope of terror takes a while to arrive for the sake of building anticipationsuch nail-biting anticipation that explodes in a folkloric freakout, yet it still holds you firmly in its grip.”

It’s a doozy that’ll leave you rushing to buy chalk.

Tickets are on sale now, as well as a few early sneak screenings. Fans of Oddity and Caveat won’t want to miss this one.
