Francis Ford Coppola’s Horror Movie ‘Dementia 13’ Being Added to the Vestron Video Blu-ray Series

One of the first films from legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, Dementia 13 has been released in countless multi-pack sets over the years, but this year it’s getting its own solo release on Blu-ray. It comes courtesy of Lionsgate’s Vestron Video Collector’s Series.

The 1963 film comes to Vestron Blu-ray on September 21, 2021.

The release is being touted as the “Director’s Cut” of Dementia 13, likely meaning the scenes producer Roger Corman added into the film have been removed to preserve Coppola’s vision.

The press release explains, “Coppola went into his own private collection to restore his directorial debut from 1963. Over the years, the film was shown on poor quality 16MM prints or transfers from whatever found its way into film collectors hands, but never properly presented as it was intended by the director. Now fully restored and remastered in Coppola’s original vision for the film, this is now the definitive version for fans of this cult classic.”

Dementia 13 obviously occupies a place in my heart as my first film and I’m very proud that it can now exist as I intended it,” said Coppola in a statement sent out today.

The Blu-ray special features include an Introduction by Francis Ford Coppola, Audio Commentary by Francis Ford Coppola, and Prologue (Dementia 13 Test).

In Dementia 13, “Shocked by the death of her spouse, a scheming widow hatches a bold plan to get her hands on the inheritance, unaware that she is targeted by an axe-wielding murderer who lurks in the family’s estate. What mystery shrouds the noble house?”
