“There’s no day more harmful to retail workers than this one.”

Released for Black Friday just last month, Casey Tebo‘s horror-comedy Black Friday is a fun one for the holiday season, and I suspect it’s going to become an annual watch for horror fans who can’t get enough of holiday-themed horror. Starring Bruce Campbell and Devon Sawa, Black Friday is a perfect watch for Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Christmas too.

Now available on VOD, the film comes to Blu-ray on January 4, 2022!

Here’s the plot synopsis for Black Friday: “On Thanksgiving night, a group of disgruntled toy store employees begrudgingly arrive for work to open the store at midnight for the busiest shopping day of the year. Meanwhile, an alien parasite crashes to Earth in a meteor. This group of misfits led by store manager Jonathan (Campbell) and longtime employee Ken (Sawa) soon find themselves battling against hordes of holiday shoppers who have been turned into monstrous creatures hellbent on a murderous rampage on Black Friday.”

Speaking with Bloody Disgusting’s The Boo Crew Podcast, Bruce Campbell recently previewed Black Friday, which reunites the horror icon with an Evil Dead II makeup effects artist!

I just wanted Casey to realize he’s not hiring Ash. I didn’t take the part because I thought I could make this manager into a macho hero. The whole point is… and that’s what I think makes most of the movie interesting… these are not the people you want to [get attacked] by aliens, especially on their worst day,” Campbell explained. “When they’re already completely overrun.”

He added, “So I liked it because of that. And I liked the fact that my character is a loser manager of a loser toy store… Because now I’m interested.”

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has four awesome cats. Still plays with toys.

Meagan Navarro wrote in her review for Bloody Disgusting,” Billed as a coming-of-rage tale, Lisa Frankenstein instead offers a celebration of outcasts and weirdos.”

“It makes for a sugary sweet, almost wholesome effort held together by a trio of infectiously winsome performances,” Meagan’s review continued. She added, “As a celebration of teen girls and outcasts who just want to be loved, Lisa Frankenstein ultimately charms.”

Kathryn Newton (Freaky) and Cole Sprouse (“Riverdale”) lead the cast for Focus Features, and the new film is rated “PG-13” for “bloody images and sexual material.”

Carla Gugino (The Fall of the House of Usher), Liza Soberano (Alone/Together), Joe Chrest (Stranger Things) and Henry Eikenberry (The Crowded Room) also star.
