‘The Deadly Spawn’ Invades Limited Edition 4K UHD from Synapse Films
The Deadly Spawn is available on 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray from Synapse Films. Limited to 5,000, the set costs $64.95.
The 1983 sci-fi horror film has been newly remastered in 4K from the uncut original 16mm camera negative with Dolby Vision. It’s presented in two aspect ratios (1.37:1 and 1.66:1) and with two audio mixes.

A pair of campers stumble upon the remnants of a meteorite and discover some fanged, worm-like creatures have hitched a ride to Earth. After the appetizer, the deadly alien spawn take refuge in the basement of an isolated house and prepare for the main course!
With the people in the neighborhood now becoming the entrees of an intergalactic monster buffet, a group of teenagers, led by a small boy, decide to take this matter into their own hands. Will they be able to stop the creatures from reproducing and rid the Earth of the deadly spawn once and for all?
Also known as Return of the Alien’s Deadly Spawn, the film is written and directed by Douglas McKeown and produced by Ted A. Bohus (Nightbeast).

‘Hokum’ Heads Home to Digital Tomorrow Ahead of Physical Media Release in August
After scaring up a strong theatrical run, Oddity director Damian McCarthy’s Hokum heads home to Digital this week.
Settle in for a spooky supernatural chiller as Hokum arrives on all Digital platforms to rent or own beginning June 2, followed by a Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD Combo and DVD release on August 11, 2026.
Adam Scott (“Severance”) stars in Hokum as reclusive novelist Ohm Bauman. When he retreats to a remote Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes, the staff’s tales of an ancient witch haunting the honeymoon suite take hold of his mind. Disturbing visions and a shocking disappearance draw Ohm into a nightmarish confrontation with the darkest corners of his past.
Peter Coonan (“The Alienist: Angel of Darkness”), David Wilmot (“Station Eleven”), Florence Ordesh (“Departure”), Michael Patric (“Frontier”), Will O’Connell (“Game of Thrones”), Brendan Conroy (“Bodkin”), and Austin Amelio (“The Walking Dead”) also star.

I wrote in my review for Bloody Disgusting, “A quaint Irish hotel with a deeply haunted history awaits an American writer in McCarthy’s third outing, continuing his streak for folkloric tales of supernatural karma and spine-tingling terror with a dark sense of humor.”
What’s next from Damian McCarthy? He’s currently writing a haunted house movie, but recent comments suggest he may be moving into other genres beyond that upcoming project.
