Covering A24’s formative years from 2011 to 2018, the book traces the company’s rise against the industry status quo and explores the directors, films and techniques that established its identity. Film critic Adrian Martin provides a foreword.

From Spring Breakers and Under the Skin to Lady Bird and Hereditary, The A24 New Wave includes in-depth, comprehensively researched stories about filmmakers Barry Jenkins, Robert Eggers, Greta Gerwig, Sean Baker, Ari Aster, and many more.

Blending close analysis with broader cultural context, West connects A24’s trajectory to classic directors and film movements through historical interludes, showing how a new generation of auteurs helped blur the line between independent and mainstream cinema.

The second volume, The A24 New Normal, is slated for Spring 2027.
