Official ‘Alien Covenant’ Photo Intros the Next Ripley!

Alien: Covenant (2017) Katherine Waterson

The end of the year gifts just keep on falling down our chimney; not only are we getting a new NIN album this Friday, but we got a beta of the new “Friday the 13th” game, and also trailers for John Wick 2, A Cure For Wellness, and even the Ridley Scott-produced Blade Runner sequel. Speaking of Scott, Fox just gifted us with the first official photo from Alien: Covenant, his sequel to Prometheus that’s more in tune with being a prequel to Alien.

The photo is of Covenant crew member Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice, Jobs, The Babysitters) doing her best impersonation of Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver). Carrying some sort of rifle, Waterston looks straight out of James Cameron’s Aliens, getup and all. Could there be a family connection?

In addition, Scott promises to answer questions that left Prometheus viewers confused: “Covenant is really going to show you who did it and why.”

Michael Fassbender is returning as Prometheus‘ android David, with a crew that includes Demian Bichir and Danny McBride (“Eastbound and Down”), as well as Alex England (Gods of Egypt), Billy Crudup, Amy Seimetz (A Horrible Way to Die, “The Killing”), Jussie Smollett (“Empire”), Carmen Ejogo, and Callie Hernandez (Machete Kills). James Franco is also rumored to be among the crew.

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Alien: Covenant – here’s everything we know so far – takes off for Paradise on May 19, 2017.
