Thanksgiving Hobo Murder Film ‘Derelicts’ Hijacks Kickstarter
If you have a love of films by Tobe Hooper, Wes Craven and/or John Waters, then Batchain Productions’ Thanksgiving-themed murderous hobo horror film Derelicts may be the film for you! The only problem is, it hasn’t been filmed yet! It made the leap to Kickstarter a few weeks ago, but needs your help to reach its goal.
Written by Clay Shirley, B.C. Glassberg and Andre Evrenos, the film will be direct by newcomer B.C. Glassberg. Derelicts (which is also a Kickstarter Staff Pick) will be “a 70s style horror film about a band of hobos who invade a suburban family’s home and teach them all about the spirit of Thanksgiving.” The concept is fairly straightforward, and very reminiscent of the films from the 70s that it is trying to pay tribute to, but the proof of concept video has a weird tone to it that I’m really digging. If it gets made, it could prove to be quite the entertaining low-budget schlock fest that can be so fun to watch!
I believe that it is important for everyone in this industry to support each other no matter what, so in the interest of full disclosure, the director and lead actor are former college classmates of mine. We went to film school in Austin together, but I went the film studies route (hence me writing for this site) and they went the film production route (hence them making Derelicts). I’ve seen some of the stuff they have put out in the past and it’s all been pretty spectacular, though, so make of that what you will.
While this will be their first full-length feature film, the crew behind Derelicts had the honor of being finalists in the ABCs of Death 2 competition with their short film “M is for MindMeld.” You can check out the clip here for a taste of what nearly made it into the final cut of the film.
Their fundraising goal is a modest $10,000, and the film has reached nearly half of that amount as of this writing. The final day to contribute is May 21st, which means there isn’t a lot of time left! If you like the proof of concept video, head on over to their Official Kickstarter Page and donate so that it can reach its goal by the time productions starts on July 5th.

Anna Faris & Regina Hall Promise ‘Scary Movie’ Will “Offend Everyone;” New Images Revealed
The Wayans are out to cancel the Cancel Culture with Scary Movie, and the cast assures it will do just that.
“They sort of have an across-the-board style,” Anna Faris tells EW. “It’s always been a part of the Wayans Brothers, their electricity. ‘Can we offend you? Will you still love us? Come on, you still love us, don’t you?'”
Regina Hall concurs, promising the “boundary-pushing” sixth installment in the horror parody franchise will “offend everyone.”
EW has shared a batch of behind-the-scenes images from Scary Movie, which hits theaters June 5 via Paramount.
Faris and Hall are joined by fellow franchise favorites Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, and Jon Abrahams in the legacy sequel.
The ensemble includes Damon Wayans Jr., Gregg Wayans, Kim Wayans, Benny Zielke, Cameron Scott Roberts, Heidi Gardner, Olivia Rose Keegan, Ruby Snowber, Savannah Lee Nassif, Sydney Park, Kenan Thompson, and Felissa Rose.
Michael Tiddes (A Haunted House) directs from a script by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, original Scary Movie director Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans (Scary Movie 2), and Rick Alvarez (A Haunted House).
The film will slash through reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, origin stories, anything with the word legacy in it, and every “final chapter” that absolutely isn’t final.
Scary Movie launched in 2000, followed by Scary Movie 2 in 2001. The Wayans’ involvement ended there, but the series continued with 2003’s Scary Movie 3, 2006’s Scary Movie 4, and 2013’s Scary Movie 5.
