Before her breakout role as Beverly Marsh in Andy Muschietti’s IT, actress Sophia Lillis played a ballerina with a revolutionary spirit in Natalia Iyudin‘s poetic dystopian short film, The Garden. The film posits a world where humans are forced to convert themselves into A.I. constructs in order to survive.
From Ex Machina to Morgan, stories concerning what the invention of artificial intelligence could mean for our future are certainly proving more and more popular these days and I, for one, welcome them all.
The full synopsis is as follows:
“When in 2089 humans become an out-of-date concept, the only way to survive is to integrate into A.I. constructs. Yet Luc—a rebellious ballerina—would rather die than conform. But when she meets an odd robot Azul, the idea of integrating into a better version of herself suddenly sounds tempting.
Welcome to the Garden. Inside you grow, outside you perish.”
The film was partially crowd-funded and premiered in full just as IT stormed the box office about two weeks ago.
