Brain…melting…
Indie filmmaker Daniel Hoffstrom shared with us a very emotional project that stemmed from a dark place, but ended up delivering one of the most insane, mind-melting, and fun psycho trips I’ve seen in quite some time.
I present to you Bride of the Demon, a faux grindhouse trailer that was spawned from the difficult loss of both Hoffstrom’s brother and father. “These two were not only two of my closest friends, but teachers of the horror genre,” he tells us. “As a way to cope/honor their legacy, I decided to write a feature length script and self-produce this grindhouse trailer.”
The Minnesota filmmaker describes Bride of the Demon as “Meet the Parents versus Tales From the Crypt: Demon Knight with a heavy helping of practical effects and splatter.”
The cast was entirely compromised of local Minneapolis talent, including Joseph Midthun, who produced all of the practical effects and has worked with such artist as Marijuana Deathsquads and a handful of Henson inspired puppets for this politically charged music video for Poliça.
As of now, the feature has been put on hold, but they are still producing short-form horror films and music videos, with plans to start writing the novel version of Bride of the Demon soon.
Until then, here’s the short with a warning: your eyes will melt.
