‘Siren Head’ Movie Won’t Be What Fans Expect, Brian Duffield Teases

After announcing a Siren Head movie for Warner Bros. in July, Zach Cregger and Brian Duffield have understandably been busy with their latest projects. Between Resident Evil, the arrival of Whalefall this week, and even the upcoming film The Flood, where does that leave the cryptid horror movie?

Cregger is teaming with Duffield to write the Siren Head script, with Duffield likely to direct, and the duo have been collaborating despite their busy schedules. Polygon spoke with Duffield at NYCC, where he provided an update on the film’s status.

“I owe Zach Cregger a phone call because I’ve been so busy with press, and then he was on the Resident Evil press tour. It’s something that we’ve got to get into,” Duffield tells Polygon. “I’m really excited. It was something that he brought to me a couple of months ago, and it’s been really fun to get to know Trevor Henderson, the creator of Siren Head, in that time. It’s been really fun asking him questions like, ‘Can Siren Head do this?‘ ‘Can it not do this?‘ and getting answers, and feeding him the ideas that Zach and I are coming up with and seeing him get really excited.“

Duffield continued, “I think the idea that Zach Cregger came up with is not what people are expecting, but I think it’s really exciting. It’s something that Trevor, so far, has seemed really excited about. I can’t wait to dive in after I take a long, long nap after [Whalefall].“

It’s a minor update but one that reveals Siren Head’s creator is heavily involved, and that it won’t be the most obvious approach to bringing the creature to life on screen.

What is Siren Head? It’s creature designer Trevor Henderson’s hostile, 40-foot cryptid, a rotting skeletal figure with two sirens as a head. Henderson’s 2018 art took off on the internet, growing into a full-blown sensation, racking up 3 billion TikTok views, one billion YouTube views, and millions of Roblox plays.
