Will Bill Survive the Final Season of “True Blood”? (Trailer) #SDCC
HBO gave Comic-Con fans a look ahead at the final episodes of the concluding season of “True Blood”, which boats one major question: will Bill Compton survive in the end?
The trailer is about 30-seconds of story build and there rest is a montage of revealing footage.
In addition, those in attendance at the Con included exec producer Brian Buckner and co-stars Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Sam Trammell, Nelsan Ellis, Rutina Wesley, Kristin Bauer van Straten, Deborah Ann Woll, Carrie Preston, Chris Bauer, Anna Camp, and Nathan Parsons.
Here are some goodies out of the SDCC, reported by Debi Moore:
“This season had to be about Bill and Sookie,” said Buckner. “It’s not going to be exactly what you think it is, but this show started out and worked because of the chemistry they shared… I certainly felt that we had to come back to Bill and Sookie; how we’re coming back to them, we’re not telling you.”
As for what’s ahead in the upcoming episodes, he teased, “It’s not done changing. It’s not gonna slow down any; there’s just a bit more focus on romance… We put last season’s issue to rest early on purpose. We know you love these characters so we landed them in a place where we hope you guys will be okay not with getting them anymore.”
It sounds like we’ll be more than okay with where Camp’s Sarah Newlin ends up. She told the crowd she has a big part to play in the final arc, adding, “I think I get what I deserve.” Buckner concurred, “I had to explain it to her boyfriend when he saw the punishment on set: ‘No, she deserves this!’” Yikes! Sounds like payback’s a bitch for Sarah!
For those who felt robbed of a chance to say goodbye to Tara, Buckner promised, “You haven’t seen the last of Rutina yet.”
Trammell weighed in on Sam’s outcome, “Sam’s story has been about family for the past few years… [Nicole] has a very objective view of this town and how insane it is. We’ll see how committed I am to her and how committed she is to staying.”
Lastly, Preston’s Arlene looks to finally be on track for some happiness as she embarks on a relationship with vampire Keith. “I don’t think you introduce a hot vampire on ‘True Blood’ without doing something with him… I feel like this season I got the real ‘True Blood’ experience, I got a vampire exploding in my crotch… [and] there’s something coming up with Arlene and Keith that’s unlike anything I’ve had to do on camera before.” Oh my!
As the inaugural season of Apple TV+’s stellar new series “Widow’s Bay” barrels toward its finale in two weeks, the latest episode gives Kate O’Flynn the spotlight as her character revisits her trauma with the Boogeyman.
“Your Baggage“, directed by Andrew DeYoung (Friendship), sees O’Flynn’s scene-stealing Patricia once again renew her fight with the Michael Myers-like stalker that slaughtered her peers during her adolescence. Thrillingly, it makes for one extended chase sequence that sees Patricia trying to warn others, while evading the undead killer.
In short, this episode’s incredible riff on Halloween and the slasher subgenre transformed Patricia into a fierce Final Girl.
“Well, that felt like a bucket list that I didn’t know was on my bucket list until I did it, but when I did it, I just lapped up every minute,” O’Flynn tells Bloody Disgusting of her triumphant turn this episode. “It felt fantastic for her to get that moment where she is becoming a badass. That was amazing.”
The actress turned to a few notable references for her performance. “Horror-wise, I go back to my youth, which was referenced in some of the episodes: Wicker Man, Carrie, and Rosemary’s Baby, that sort of thing is my kind of vibe.”
O’Flynn also notes how the series’ unique tone allows for so much creative freedom to make bold swings. “There’s something very freeing about it. Every moment is up for grabs, so it’s like we don’t have to totally land in one direction or another. It keeps it alive.“
Patricia is the eccentric assistant to Matthew Rhys‘ Mayor Tom Loftis, who’s at the forefront of trying to solve the island’s pesky curse predicament. Rhys felt the same about “Widow’s Bay” and its rare ability to make you laugh and scream in equal measure, stemming from series creator Katie Dippold.
“The mandate was, ‘It’s a real world with real people. You play for real.’ There’s no playing for comedy or horror,” Rhys echoes O’Flynn’s sentiments on how freeing the series’ tone has been.
New episodes will release every Wednesday through June 17 only on Apple TV+.
