[Screamfest ’18] John Ritter’s ‘Bride of Chucky’ Death Scene Was Almost Even More Gruesome

John Ritter plays a magnificent A-hole in Bride of Chucky. He’s Jade (Katherine Heigl)’s evil stepfather who sabotages her relationship with Jesse (Nick Stabile). He dies at Chucky and Tiffany’s hands, with nails shot into his face so he looks like Pinhead. But that’s not all. He wakes up and Chucky stabs him.

There was supposed to be one more John Ritter gag, but they ran out of time to film it. At a Screamfest Q&A for a 20th anniversary screening for Bride of Chucky, writer Don Mancini revealed the scene they never got to film.

“After the scene where the friend David gets hit by a truck and explode and the van takes off and the cop car is chasing them, what you see in the film now is that the doors open and Chucky shoots the tire of the cop car to prevent them from getting chased,” Mancini said. ”What was originally scripted was there’s one last payoff to John Ritter.”

The nails in Ritter’s face came into play one more time.

“They toss his body out into the highway and the cop car rolls over the nails, so it has a blowout and spins and explodes,” Mancini said. “We weren’t able to do that, unfortunately.”

Mancini shared another Bride of Chucky deleted scene that involved actor Nick Stabile, who played Jesse. Jesse was transporting Chucky and Tiffany to New Jersey in the hopes of running away with his girlfriend Jade (Katherine Heigl). Jesse was Tiffany’s trailer park neighbor, so there was one more moment to pay off their relationship.

“After Tiffany’s been burned and the Winnebago blows up, [Stabile is] running with the doll and there’s this bit where her heart stops and Jesse needs to keep her alive because he’s got to exchange her for Jade,” Mancini said. “So he has to give Tiffany mouth to mouth. As we’ve established, Tiffany loves him so she kind of looks up like [swooning], ‘Oh, thank you.’”

Screamfest continues through Thursday, October 18.
