According to multiple sources, the psychological thriller/horror film Personal Shopper drew a variety of reactions at the Cannes Film Festival when it screened twice earlier this week. The film was screened for critics on Monday where it received both boos and praise while the Tuesday night gala premiere drew a 4-and-a-half-minute standing ovation once the credits began rolling.
Director Olivier Assayas stated, “It happens to me once in a while, where people just don’t get the ending. When you come to Cannes, you have to be prepared for everything.” Stewart added, “Everybody did not boo. Let’s be clear.”
In Personal Shopper, “…Stewart plays a young American in Paris who half-believes she’s in contact with her late twin brother.”
IFC Films holds the distribution rights for Personal Shopper, but there are no plans as of yet for a release.
