“Judge Dredd” fans went in a frenzy last week when Karl Urban, who starred in the 2013 adaptation, Dredd, told the Denver Comic Con crowd that a sequel was “…in development.“
The film’s executive producer, Adi Shankar, quickly refuted reports, stating that the report was “not true at all,” while Urban clarified his comments on Twitter: “Unfortunately a sequel is no closer to happening, options have been discussed but there is no sequel in “development.”
Twitter user Killer Kane connected with Jason Kingsley, who is not only the co-founder and CEO of Rebellion, but also the owner and publisher of 2000ad. He Also co-produced Dredd with Shanker. Here’s what he told the user who asked about Shanker’s comments:

Oof.
Feels a bit like a low-blow, but I think it gets the point across pretty well. This leaves a lot of questions unanswered, but the positive takeaway is that Shanker was discounting any progress, meaning that Kingsley is more optimistic about a Dreddrevival. Who will save the franchise? Netflix? They are financing a $60 million Death Note adaptation – why not back a “Judge Dredd” series?
“We really want to get more TV stuff made and movie stuff made. There’s stuff happening in the background that’s really exciting,” Kingsley told Pocket Lint last week. “We’re a long way from anything announcing, but we’re working hard on that.
“It’s got to be done right. It’s almost worse to do something and do it badly, than not at all.”
