Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment produced some truly amazing films over the years. From Gremlins to Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Young Sherlock Holmes to The Goonies, their films have long had a certain magical quality about them that made them immediately identifiable.
One genre of film that keeps popping up throughout their history is sci-fi. With comedy, they did the Back to the Future films. With adventure/horror, they did the Jurassic Park franchise. For big summer events, they had films like Men in Black, Minority Report, and War of the Worlds.
Now, just a few years after Super 8, Spielberg is once again dipping his toes into alien invasions Amblin Partners has picked up the script for The Fall, a new extraterrestrial-themed film that was written by Pete Bridges, a pretty much unknown writer.
According to Empire, the film will follow, “…a divorced couple who attempt to rescue their home-alone children in the Atlanta suburbs, during an extraterrestrial siege.”
No word on when the film will enter production as the next film Amblin is working on is the highly anticipated sci-fi/fantasy book-to-film adaptation of Ready Player One, which comes out in 2018.
