One of the greatest monologues in cinema history has to go to Jaws, where Robert Shaw’s Quint talks about his experience aboard the USS Indianapolis, the ship that delivered parts for the atomic bomb that would fall upon Hiroshima during World War II. The Navy cruiser was struck by a Japanese submarine and sank, leaving some 900 men floating in the Pacific Ocean for four days, where sharks began attacking and eating the sailors. It’s a horrifying true story and Shaw’s monologue drives home the terror that every man in the water must’ve felt.
Today, we’ve gotten a trailer for USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage, which is a movie about that very event.
“The harrowing true story of the crew of the USS Indianapolis, who were stranded in the Philippine Sea for five days after delivering the atomic weapons that would eventually end WWII. As they awaited rescue, they endured extreme thirst, hunger, and relentless shark attacks.”
Directed by Mario Van Peebles and starring Nicolas Cage and Tom Sizemore, the film looks…honestly it looks rough. There’s some terrible CGI and a lot of overacting, none of which I want to see when it comes to a story that is so important and haunting.
The film was supposed to have already come out but has apparently been pushed back to a November 11th release date, according to WKRG.
