Prime Video’s live-action Spider-Noir series earned 11 Emmy nominations, the most of any Prime Video series this year, but it’s not enough; Variety reports that the series has been canceled and won’t return for season two.
Nicolas Cage starred as Ben Reilly, “a seasoned, down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life, following a deeply personal tragedy, as the city’s one and only superhero.”
The series also has a strong 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 90% “popcornmeter” approval among fans. All of which indicates that cost is likely the reason behind this cancelation.
Co-showrunners Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street) and Steve Lightfoot (“The Punisher”) developed the “Spider-Noir” television series with the Academy Award-winning team behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse: Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal.
Nicolas Cage stars in his first leading television role alongside Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston, and Brendan Gleeson.
Guest stars for the series include Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Cary Christopher, Michael Kostroff, Scott MacArthur, Joe Massingill, Whitney Rice, Amanda Schull, Andrew Caldwell, Amy Aquino, Andrew Robinson, and Kai Caster.
Emmy winner Harry Bradbeer (“Fleabag,” Enola Holmes) directed the first two episodes.
