WORLD OF DEATH EP9 – “Miscellaneous” / “Death Rattle”

Published

on

Sometimes horror isn’t necessarily scary, it’s just weird. Our first short film, “Miscellaneous” can definitely be classified as weird. This fast-paced, in-your-face montage of odd-ball imagery is the perfect way to kick off our fifth week of World of Death! Directed by Jordan Wippell, “Miscellaneous” provided a handful of the shots for the WOD trailer including one that gets a very visceral reaction every time it’s on screen. You’ll cringe too when you see it. With sporadic comedy, a solid score, and a fun ending, “Miscellaneous” is one of my personal faves from WOD.
Next up is “Death Rattle” from director JD Brown. I’m a big fan of ghost stories and this one has a nice blend of creepy atmosphere in the short time allotted. I can’t stand it when horror movies are over-lit, but try to stay scary. “Death Rattle” is dark and moody and is a perfect contrast to “Miscellaneous”.

So far we’ve showcased a bit of everything with World of Death, from different countries, storylines, and sub genres, to every degree of experience and budget level. But we want to know what fans want to see more of! Leave comments and tell us what you think of World of Death so far! See you again Thursday night!

Meet the Filmmakers

Jordan Wippell of Tempe, Arizona has been making films as long as he can remember. This year, along with filmmaker Brandon Scott, Jordan will be releasing Arizona’s first interactive narrative film called Help Falls. “Help Falls combines six sub-genres of horror into one online cinematic experience that will allow the viewer to make choices on behalf of the main character. Think Goosebumps ‘Choose Your Own Adventure!’” Follow Jordan’s work at http://www.jordanwippell.com/ and learn more about Help Falls at https://www.facebook.com/helpfalls/

JD Brown is from Los Angeles has been acting since 2001, but The Tap Dancer (another WOD short) is the first thing he ever directed.  He wrote, produced, and performed a story-telling podcast called The Sound of a Mother Screaming, which is broken up into 5 episodes, the first coming at the end of September. He also directed a music documentary (with a touch of horror) about Jeff Rosenstock and the making of his new album, WORRY, which will be released on Oct 14 through Side One Dummy.

Shudder Infested clip, spider horror

Director Sébastien Vaniček has been set to helm the next Evil Dead movie, but up first from the filmmaker is the creepy crawly spider horror movie Infested. An exclusive new clip gives a discomfiting closer look at the spider terror, and it’ll make you intensely afraid of all bathroom drains and fixtures.

Infested will induce a new wave of arachnophobia this week; the spider horror film arrives on Shudder on April 26, 2024.

If you’re brave enough to face your fears, watch the new clip below to get a feel for the unrelenting wave of spiders that the characters (and the audience) will face in the film.

In the film, “An underprivileged suburb has been thrown into chaos following an invasion of venomous spiders. Ordered to be placed in quarantine, the project sees inhabitants living on lockdown alongside terrifying spiders that are becoming bigger and bigger.

“The story revolves around Kaleb, who’s about to turn 30 and has never been lonelier. He’s fighting with his sister over a matter of inheritance and has cut ties with his best friend.

“Passionate about exotic animals, he comes home one day with a venomous spider and accidentally lets it slip away.”

Théo Christine (“Suprêmes”), Finnegan Oldfield (“Final Cut”), Jérôme Niel (“Smoking Causes Coughing”), Sofia Lesaffre (“Les Misérables”) and Lisa Nyarko star.

Florent Bernard co-wrote the script.

In his review out of Fantastic Fest last year, Bloody Disgusting’s Trace Thurman raved that Infested (aka Vermines) is “one of the best spider attack movies in years,” noting in his 4-star review that the creature feature uses practical spiders – REAL SPIDERS – as much as possible. Thurman also wrote that the spider horror movie is “full of moments that will get under your skin (I kicked my legs up more than a few times in my screening).”

The spiders will be everywhere in Infested, are you ready?
