WORLD OF DEATH EP 13 – “The Millipede Man” / “Split the Check”
The black and white horror films of yesterday don’t get much attention these days, which is unfortunate. These are the movies that paved the way for what gets made now. If it weren’t for Frankenstein, The Creature From the Black Lagoon, and other monsters of the silver-screen, we would probably never have Candyman, Pumpkinhead, or Freddy Krueger. Some filmmakers such as Jay Wade Edwards like to tap into the style of the movies that created the foundation for the genre we love so disturbingly. “The Millipede Man” is one of the shortest films in World of Death and it isn’t really even scary, but it’s cool. If you ever saw and liked a black and white horror film, I think you’ll be able to appreciate what Edwards creates here.
Up next is a short from the catalog of Patrick Rea, a Missouri-based filmmaker who seems to constantly be on the indie horror radar. I’ve seen a number of his shorts at festivals over the years and you may have caught his feature, “Nailbiter” on cable. Rea’s short “Split the Check” is a comedic glimpse into married life as a group of couples meet for dinner and drinks. If you think there’s some turbulence between these couples during dinner, wait until the check arrives!
