This past weekend, we broke news that Saw: Legacy began production, which means we’ll be seeing an eighth entry in the franchise that kicked off in 2004. Directed by the Spierig brothers, Michael and Peter (Undead, Daybreakers), the movie is based on a script by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger, the duo behind Piranha 3D, Piranha 3DD, and Sorority Row.
Today, THR got wind that Charlie Clouser will be returning as composer for the film, which continues the tradition of having him aboard for every film so far.
Clouser tells THR, “I’m psyched to be scoring the re-invention of the Saw franchise. I think the Spierig brothers can deliver a fresh take on the material that will establish a new story line and new characters that can carry the saga into the future. After a six-year break from the world of Saw, this will be an opportunity for me to re-imagine how I approach the score, and I’ll be trying a more stark, bold, and stripped-down approach that will be more in line with the strong vision that the Spierig brothers are bringing to the table.
Clouser’s “Hello Zepp” was originally meant to be used only in the first film but has since become the recurring theme of the entire series. It’d be impossible to imagine a Saw film without this integral piece.
IMDb lists Saw: Legacy as having a release date of October 27th, 2017. Since that hasn’t been confirmed, we’ll continue to see it as tentative with a chance of it shifting.
