Original ‘Suspiria’ Star Joins the Remake

Okay, this is kinda cool. While many of us are loathe to express any excitement, much less interest, in Amazon Studios remake of Dario Argento’s Suspiria, a new piece of news that comes from EW gives the modern adaptation more than a nod to the original. The site is reporting that Jessica Harper, who played Susie Bannion in the original film, has signed on to appear in Luca Guadagnino’s remake, where she’ll be starring alongside Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton, Chloë Grace Moretz, and Mia Goth.

In the 1977 original, “On a stormy night, the American dancer Suzy Bannion arrives in Freiburg coming from New York to join a famous and expensive ballet school for a three years training. On the next morning, she is informed by the direction of the school that a student she met leaving the place on the previous night was violently murdered and the police is investigating the crime. She becomes friend of another student, Sara, and she realizes that the house is indeed a coven of evil witches.

While Guadagnino has been very vocal about his love of the original and how he wants to do the remake justice, Dario Argento, who directed the original film isn’t keen on a remake.

The Suspiria remake will be released sometime in 2017.
