112 Ocean Avenue is the house that inspired the events of The Amityville Horror, the 1977 book that became a cultural phenomenon, resulting in a film adaptation in 1979. That house went up for sale earlier this year at the cool price of $850,000 and it seems that someone made an offer that the owners couldn’t refuse, taking the house off the market and granting it a new family.

While it’s all well and good for us to connect this house to a series of fictional (the first film may be non-fiction, depending on what you believe in) movies, we do have to remember that a very real tragedy did occur there in 1974 when Ronnie DeFeo Jr. murdered his six family members. So, while the appeal is there for many people to own a piece of cinematic history, there is a far more gruesome reality that takes precedence.
