Latest Update on ‘The Strangers 2’ Doesn’t Bring Good News

Published

on

It was back in February that we last updated you on the status of The Strangers 2, the long-planned sequel to Bryan Bertino’s chilling home invasion flick. Last we heard, Marcel Langenegger was attached to direct a script penned by Ben Ketai, but it seemed that Relativity’s financial troubles had reared their head once again. What’s the latest? None of the news is good.

Speaking with Rue Morgue, producer Adrienne Biddle just revealed that both he and Bertino are no longer attached to The Strangers 2… and the project is more dead than ever before.

Biddle told the site:

Bryan and I and our company are not attached to the project at this point. He wrote the original script, which I will say is a fantastic piece of writing, but he was never going to direct it, and it’s in Relativity Media’s hands following the sale of Rogue to Relativity. With all the troubles they’ve had, I don’t know if it’s going to happen. If they can get their financial act together, maybe, but it has almost happened two or three or four times over the last five or six years, so I’ll believe it when it see it.

Ironically, financial woes are at the center of the sequel’s script:

After financial troubles force them to move out of their house, a family of four try to make it through the night in a deserted trailer park while being hunted by the savage, ax-wielding, mask-wearing trio wrecking havoc once again.

The Strangers 2 has been on-again, off-again since 2011.

On the plus side, Bertino’s The Monster is now on VOD, and it’s an awesome creature feature with a really cool monster and characters you actually care about. Be sure to check it out!
