Jane Levy on ‘Don’t Breathe’ Sequel and if She’d Return to the ‘Evil Dead’ Universe (Interview)

DON'T BREATHE via Sony Screen Gems

Next Tuesday sees the DVD and Blu-ray releases of Fede Alvarez’s home invasion horror/thriller Don’t Breathe, which we hailed as, “…a masterclass in audience manipulation.” The home video releases will include multiple deleted scenes as well as a director’s commentary and several featurettes.

Starring Jane Levy (Evil Dead), Dylan Minnette (Goosebumps), Daniel Zovatto (It Follows) and Stephen Lang (Avatar), Don’t Breathe follows, “…a group of thieves who break into a blind man’s home thinking they’ll get away with the perfect crime. When the blind man reveals a dark side, the trio quickly discovers they were dead wrong.

To celebrate the upcoming release, we spoke with star Jane Levy about her reaction to the film’s success, her thoughts on the recently announced sequel, and the current status of an Evil Dead sequel! Check it all out below.

Hey Jane, how are you doing?

Good! How are you?

I’m doing very well, thank you! We spoke in Budapest when the film was being made and you came aboard the project pretty close to when it was going to begin filming. Looking back on everything, how do you feel about your character Rocky and the final product?

I’m really happy with it. I’m really happy for Fede and the crew and the producers and the cast. He really made a good movie!

Don’t Breathe was a huge success in theaters. What was your reaction upon seeing all the positive press and audience turnout?

I was surprised. You never know when you’re making anything how it’s going to turn out. I also have this feeling that Fede knew all along that it was going to be like that [laughs]. It’s fucking great and it doesn’t happen often, so it feels good to be able to celebrate a project that I was a part of.

Fede and Sam have confirmed that a sequel is in the works, although no solid details have emerged. Do you know if Rocky is going to make a comeback? If so, would you be interested in reprising your role?

I don’t know if Rocky is going to be involved with the sequel. I have a feeling it’s probably going to be…if she was involved it’d be in some way that you wouldn’t expect. Fede is very committed to making things very new and fresh and not like you’ve ever seen them before, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Rocky wasn’t a part of it. However, that being said, if they need me I’ll be there!

Sam was quoted as saying, “It’s only the greatest idea for a sequel I’ve ever heard.” Since ‘Don’t Breathe’ was the second time you worked with Fede, do you have any inkling of where his mind might be for a sequel?

I unfortunately don’t. But you’ve gotta love those guys! The ‘Evil Dead’ crew really knows how to make a bombastic statement and get the fans riled up! But I believe them. Obviously they deliver.

With the popularity of Ash vs Evil Dead, many fans are hoping to see Mia come back in either an Evil Dead sequel or some kind of crossover with Ash. Is there any progress on that?

If there is any progress, I don’t know about it. I will say that I would love to work with Bruce Campbell. That would be very fun! You know, I’m only 26! Maybe Mia will show up when she’s 56!

Would you want to play Mia again? She’s a difficult character and you’d have to do it minus a hand!

[Laughs] Yeah, chainsaw arm! Yeah, again, if anyone needs me, I’m here!

What do you have coming up next that you want people to know about?

I’m in the “Twin Peaks” remake. But I can’t say any details about that but I’m very excited! I have a kid’s movie coming out in January called ‘Monster Trucks’ that is very fun if you’re a young boy or a young girl. I’m going to be in a Netflix movie directed by Macon Blair that I’m extremely excited about that comes out sometime next year called ‘I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore’. I just wrapped a movie with James Franco that he directed last night. I’m going to make a fantasy comedy action movie in Alabama next week. So, yeah! I have some stuff in the works!

I have to ask, can you give me ANY details about the “Twin Peaks” series because that show is my absolute favorite!

Me too! I’m really sorry, I’ll go to jail, y’know?

No worries! Jane, thanks so much for your time and good luck with all of your projects! I can’t wait to see them!

Thanks so much!
