I love urban genre films and hope to one day be able to make one for Bloody Disgusting. There just aren’t enough of them, which is why I’m ogling over J.D. Dillard’s Sleight, which looks like a magical take on Chronicle.
In the film, which had its world premiere at this past year’s Sundance Film Festival, a young street magician is left to take care of his little sister after his mother’s passing and turns to drug dealing in the Los Angeles party scene to keep a roof over their heads. When he gets into trouble with his supplier, his sister is kidnapped and he is forced to rely on both his sleight of hand and brilliant mind to save her.
The trailer has just been released, along with an April 7, 2017 release date, showing that this street magician has more up his sleeve than cards.
Sleight stars Jacob Latimore, Seychelle Gabriel, Dulé Hill, Sasheer Zamata, and Storm Reid.
