Focus World, owned and operated by Focus Features, has set a domestic theatrical release date for writer/director Julia Ducournau’s award-winning psychological horror thriller Raw.
Raw will open in select cities on Friday, March 10th, 2017; following the movie’s theatrical run, the title will be on digital platforms months later, in the summer, Bloody Disgusting learned.
The dark coming-of-age tale captivated audiences at Cannes, TIFF, London Film Festival, and Fantastic Fest earlier this year, and will continue wowing audiences when it screens at Sundance on January 22nd.
Garance Marillier portrays the teenaged Justine, who commences her studies at veterinary school to follow in her family members’ footsteps. Raised as a vegetarian, Justine is pressured at school to try meat for the first time. Once she does, she plumbs both the depths of her own soul and tests the limits of her darkest cravings.
Our very own Joe Lipsett reviewed the film, explaining that it “perfectly balances horrific and comedic elements.”
The Petit Film/Rouge International/FraKas Productions film world-premiered at the 2016 Cannes International Film Festival in the International Critics’ Week section, where it won the FIPRESCI Prize. Produced by Petit Film’s Jean des Forêts, the French-language Raw stars Garance Marillier and is the debut feature from Ms. Ducournau.
