The ‘Chucky 7’ Production Office is Now Open!

Writer director Don Mancini is trolling us hard on Twitter, teasing the imminent return of Chucky, a serial killer (Charles Lee Ray) who transferred his soul into the body of a Good Guys Doll back in 1988’s Child’s Play.

The Child’s Play films have remained canon for nearly 30 years, with the latest installment being Universal’s 2013 Curse of Chucky, which introduced us to Fiona Dourif, the daughter of Brad, who lends his voice to good ol’ Chuckster.

Curse was filmed in 2012 in Winnipeg, and it looks as if Mancini and his crew are returning for the long-gestured tentatively-titled(?) Chucky 7.

Mancini already shared selfies in front of the Curse house and with Fiona and Brad, posted the weather in Winnipeg, and now just blew the lid off the long kept secret with the following tweet:

Yes, it appears that the production office is officially open for Chucky 7, which means one of two things: production is either underway or about to begin. We’ve put in numerous calls to Universal for official confirmation and details but have been met with silence.

What we do know is that Fiona will be reprising her role, as will Brad. Also returning are Summer H. HowellJennifer Tilly (who became the popular female doll, Tiffany, in Bride of Chucky before transferred her soul into the body of actress Jennifer Tilly in Seed of Chucky) and Alex Vincent, star of the first two Child’s Play films who returned in a shocking post credits sequence in Curse. The film ended as if Mancini planned to tie the previous three films – Bride of Chucky, Seed of Chucky and Curse of Chucky – together in a seventh film, which has been in development for the better part of the year.

We’ll continue to reach out to the filmmakers and producers in hopes of getting some official word, but for now let’s just celebrate that Chucky will be returning as early as in 2017, although I can see Universal holding this title for the franchise’s 30th anniversary in 2018.

Dev Patel’s ‘Monkey Man’ Is Now Available to Watch at Home!

After pulling in $28 million at the worldwide box office this month, director (and star) Dev Patel’s critically acclaimed action-thriller Monkey Man is now available to watch at home.

You can rent Monkey Man for $19.99 or digitally purchase the film for $24.99!

Monkey Man is currently 88% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with Bloody Disgusting’s head critic Meagan Navarro awarding the film 4.5/5 stars in her review out of SXSW back in March.

Meagan raves, “While the violence onscreen is palpable and painful, it’s not just the exquisite fight choreography and thrilling action set pieces that set Monkey Man apart but also its political consciousness, unique narrative structure, and myth-making scale.”

“While Monkey Man pays tribute to all of the action genre’s greats, from the Indonesian action classics to Korean revenge cinema and even a John Wick joke or two, Dev Patel’s cultural spin and unique narrative structure leave behind all influences in the dust for new terrain,” Meagan’s review continues.

She adds, “Monkey Man presents Dev Patel as a new action hero, a tenacious underdog with a penetrating stare who bites, bludgeons, and stabs his way through bodies to gloriously bloody excess. More excitingly, the film introduces Patel as a strong visionary right out of the gate.”

Inspired by the legend of Hanuman, Monkey Man stars Patel as Kid, an anonymous young man who ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash. After years of suppressed rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.

Monkey Man is produced by Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions.
