Thrilling ’47 Meters Down’ Clips Dropped into a Shark Attack

Published

on

Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures’ shark survival thriller 47 Meters Down (here’s my positive review of the film) is getting a full theatrical release on June 16, 2017, a month before this year’s “Shark Week”. Johannes Roberts directs the excellent thriller that stars Mandy Moore and Claire Holt who are trapped in a cage at the bottom of the ocean.

Even though we’re two weeks out, we were provided with five clips from the film, some of which are quite thrilling. There’s footage of the girls getting on the boat, entering the rusty cage, and of the duo dropping to the bottom of the sea. Even though some of them are introductory, I think they take away from the full experience of the film and think they should probably be avoided. Those who don’t mind a good spoiler or two, watch some of the shark attack sequences below…

On the rebound after a devastating break-up, Lisa (Many Moore) is ready for adventure while on vacation in Mexico. Even still, she needs a little extra persuasion when her daring sister Kate (Claire Holt) suggests they go shark diving with some locals. Once underwater in a protective cage, Lisa and Kate catch a once in a lifetime, face-to-face look at majestic Great Whites. But when their worst fears are realized and the cage breaks away from their boat, they find themselves plummeting to the bottom of the seabed, too deep to radio for help without making themselves vulnerable to the savage sharks, their oxygen supplies rapidly dwindling. 47 METERS DOWN is a terrifying tale of survival set in the domain of the ocean’s fiercest creatures.

The film was directed by Johannes Roberts, who is in pre-production on The Strangers 2.

Paul Dano Joins Parker Finn’s ‘Possession’ Remake

Paul Dano in The Batman

Andrzej Żuławski’s 1981 psychological horror movie Possession is getting a remake from Smile writer/director Parker Finn, and Deadline reports that The Batman actor Paul Dano has joined the cast.

No word at this time on character details, though.

The original film starred Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill as a married couple in Cold War-era West Berlin whose relationship spirals into a supernatural nightmare. In Finn’s update, Margaret Qualley and Callum Turner will star as the turbulent couple in Finn’s Possession, and Adjani has officially given her blessing on Qualley’s casting.

Parker Finn is writing and directing the new take on Possession.

He’s also producing alongside Jonathan Fass via Bad Feeling, along with Roy Lee and Andrew Childs via Vertigo, and Robert Pattinson. Marc Bienstock is serving as exec producer.

Our own Brian Keiper celebrated Possession‘s 40th anniversary here on BD back in 2021, writing: “Few movies depict emotional turmoil as effectively and daringly as Andrzej Zulawksi’s Possession. It is a challenging and sometimes inscrutable film, both for the mind and the emotions. Zulawski struggles through a number of deep issues throughout the course of the film; issues that speak to some of humanity’s deepest pains and fears. In many ways it is about loss— loss of political ideals, loss of faith, and loss of innocence. But most of all, Possession is about the fear, pain, and anger that comes from the loss of a marriage.”

This will mark Dano’s first horror role. The actor previously appeared in sci-fi hits Looper and Okja.
