We’re really excited about X-Men spinoff film New Mutants, which was recently described as “a full-fledged horror movie.” Today brings the latest casting news, as THR learned that Blu Hunt, a relative newcomer who appeared in a handful of episodes of The Originals, has nabbed the lead role of Danielle Moonstar, the Native American telepath also known as “Mirage”.
“13 Reasons Why” star Henry Zaga was recently cast to play Roberto da Costa a.k.a Sunspot, a mutant with the ability to absorb and channel solar power. Sunspot was previously featured in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, portrayed in the film by Adan Canto.
Split star Anya Taylor-Joy and Maisie Williams of “Game of Thrones” are already signed up for the project with Taylor-Joy playing Illyana Rasputin, also known as Magik, who uses teleportation. Williams is on board as Rahne Sinclair, a.k.a. Wolfsbane, who can turn into a wolf. Rosario Dawson is in talks to play Dr. Cecilia Reyes, with Charlie Heaton in negotiations for the role of Sam Guthrie, a.k.a. Cannonball.
The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone is helming from a script he co-wrote with Knate Lee about teenage superheroes-mutants.
New Mutants is in pre-production and has been set for an April 13, 2018, opening.
