Talk about going full circle in just one week…
New research suggests that the Tyrannosaurus rex couldn’t actually run, and could only achieve a max speed of just 12 mph. This, among many other reports (such as dinosaurs actually having feathers), changes the way we view Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park, especially the scene in which Dr. Ian Malcolm narrowly escapes a T-rex attack on the back of a Jeep.
But what if not only this research could be true, but also the events within Jurassic Park? That would be an oxymoron of sorts, right? Not at all, especially after you hear this nutso fan theory that has my head spinning.
Cracked compiled this new theory (via reddit) into a simple video – sort of like when John Hammond uses animation to explain how they used DNA to create real dinosaurs. Speaking of… that’s exactly where this theory hatches, by suggesting that there weren’t any actual dinosaurs in Jurassic Park.
Let me explain.
You see, what Hammond and his team of scientists would have actually created were faux dinosaurs based on our own interpretations of what they would have looked and acted like back in prehistoric times. The theory suggests that the dinosaurs in the movie are merely the creation of a billionaire madman and at no point did Hammond and co. actually resurrect the mighty reptiles. There’s plenty of evidence to support this claim and to be honest, I actually sort of like this interpretation better than the real thing…
