Tell me if you’ve heard this one before. A stranger is taken into a bunker where they have doubts about one of the hosts and their claims about the outside world. Hmmm. That’s the basic gist of I Am Mother, the Australian sci-fi thriller from first-time director Grant Sputore.
The Reaping‘s Hilary Swank has signed on to star, writes THR, alongside an ensemble cast that includes Clara Rugaard, Luke Hawker, and Tahlia Sturzaker.
Somebody better tell them that the script by Michael Lloyd Green sure as hell sounds like the exact same thing as 10 Cloverfield Lane, only with an android. Here’s the official breakdown:
I Am Mother portrays a teenage girl (Rugaard) raised underground by a robot mother designed to repopulate the earth following an extinction event. Their unique bond is threatened when a blood-drenched stranger, played by Swank, is taken in by the teen, only to find herself at odds with her gear-and-piston parent. Overnight, the stranger casts doubt on Mother’s claims about the outside world and begins to unravel the fabric of their insular family. Unsure whom to trust, the girl begins to probe into Mother’s dubious nature and uncovers the truth of her greater mission.
Yes, that’s the exact same plot as 10 Cloverfield Lane, only this will star an Oscar winner.
