We’ve heard various things about a potential 28 Months Later over the years, including rights issues that were stalling any forward movement on the sequel to 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later. While promoting Ex Machina, 28 Days writer Alex Garland said that the Months concept had been written. Now, while promoting new film Annihilation, Garland seems way less hopeful about the future of that particular franchise.
Simply put, he’s pretty sure it’s dead in the water.
During a Reddit AMA session over the weekend, Garland broke the silence.
“Kind of,” Garland responded, when asked by a fan if there are any plans in motion to make 28 Months Later. “But doubt it will ever happen,” he added.
This lines up with previous comments made about 28 Months Later. Essentially, there *is* a concept in mind for the film, but in all likelihood it’s just never happening.
