“I stopped writing this movie about 20 times… cause I thought it was impossible.”
Jordan Peele’s Get Out, which by the way is most definitely a horror movie, was up for four Oscars at the Academy Awards last night, and it ended up taking home the golden statue for an award it unquestionably deserved, Best Original Screenplay. Peele himself wrote the script, winning his very first Oscar for the “social thriller.”
What you may not have realized is that Peele made big time history last night, becoming the first black writer in history to win Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars.
Even Peele was beside himself, tweeting “I just won an Oscar. WTF?!?” Peele’s partner Keegan-Michael Key, meanwhile, was moved to tears by his friend’s win.
Peele also made history for the horror genre last night, as Get Out‘s Best Original Screenplay win was the very first Best Original Screenplay win for a horror movie!
