Netflix Says These 10 Streaming Horror Movies Are Too Scary for Many Viewers to Finish

Published

Paco Plaza’s new horror film Veronica recently debuted on Netflix, and you probably read the headlines that indicated the movie was way too scary for many viewers to even finish. The film, based on true events, no doubt saw an uptick in viewership in the wake of those attention-grabbing claims; after all, who could resist such promises?

Inspired by the viral success of Veronica, Netflix just sent over a list of 10 other horror films, currently streaming on Netflix, that viewers couldn’t finish. According to their data, the 10 movies were turned off by large numbers of viewers after at least 70% of the runtime had passed, which they say indicates more than mere disinterest.

“Technically speaking, these are the top horror films that committed viewers just couldn’t finish – they made it halfway through, they made it past the climax, but they just couldn’t survive until the end.”

Here’s the full list:

Mind you, there are of course endless reasons why people decide to turn off movies, beyond them being “too scary,” so we urge you to take this data with a grain of salt.

For what it’s worth, however, The Void (pictured above) rules.

Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.

Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things),  Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.

The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).

Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
