It began as a toy. Then a comic series. Now, a movie.
Deadline is reporting this afternoon that Zak Penn, who just adapted Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One for Steven Spielberg, is next turning his attention to the character known as ROM the Spaceknight, signing on to pen a feature film about ROM for Hasbro’s Allspark Pictures and Paramount Pictures.
The site explains, “Short for Read-Only-Memory, ROM originated as a toy and then the comic ROM: Spaceknight. Hailing from a utopian society on the planet Galador, ROM is a cyborg who, after defeating the invading Dire Wraith on its planet, continues the battle on Earth and other planets.”
Zak Penn’s writing credits also include Last Action Hero, Inspector Gadget, Behind Enemy Lines, X-Men 2, Elektra, The Incredible Hulk and The Avengers.
