1999 saw the release of both Deep Blue Sea and Lake Placid, two entertaining creature features that no doubt paved the way for pretty much everything Syfy has been doing in recent years. And both films, wouldn’t ya know it, are getting sequels this year.
Deep Blue Sea 2 arrives Tuesday, April 17, and Lake Placid: Legacy is also coming soon. Unlike Deep Blue Sea, which gets its very first sequel tomorrow, the new Lake Placid film will actually be the fourth sequel in the franchise, and that’s not even counting crossover film Lake Placid vs. Anaconda. Yeah, that totally happened.
Via Syfy Wire:
“Taking place several years after the events of the original film, Legacy finds the team of young explorers out to reveal the secrets of an area removed from modern day maps and hidden behind electric fences. However, once they reach the center of the lake, they discover an island that harbors an abandoned facility with a horrific legacy: the island is home to a deadly predator eager to feast on those dumb enough to ignore the warnings.
But before they can turn back, our hapless heroes get dragged into a battle for their lives — and will need to work together if they hope to survive.”
Lake Placid: Legacy premieres Monday, May 28 (Memorial Day) at 9pm EST.
Darrell Roodt directed the film, starring Joe Pantoliano, Katherine Barrell, Tim Rozon, Sai Bennett, Luke Newton, Craig Stein and Greg Kriek.
