Ahead of today’s brand new trailer premiere, EW has shared several new images from J.A. Bayona‘s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, along with several from the mag’s photo shoot.
The big takeaway from the series of photos is that it looks as if Bayona utilized practical effects in his sequel, which is one of the reasons Steven Spielberg’s 1993 adaptation stands the test of time. Speaking of the latter, there’s an awesome new shot (above) of the Indoraptor hunting down Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Isabella Sermon that harkens back to Jurassic Park.
“We’re all trying to make something that will be part of the Jurassic empire and tonally match the previous movies, but we’re going off in a new direction,” Pratt explained.
Director J.A. Bayona also teased that the second half of the movie will have a “more suspenseful, darker, claustrophobic, and even has this kind of gothic element” to it.
There’s also a seemingly practical photo of Howard and Justice Smith being eyed down by a Carnotaurus (far bottom):
