‘Deathgasm’ Director’s ‘Guns Akimbo’ Wins Casting Game

Jason Lei Howden, who directed the ridiculously fun Deathgasm, is playing a game of death with his action-comedy Guns Akimbo, which begins production April 28th in Auckland, New Zealand.

The first casting news revealed that Daniel Radcliffe would be starring. He has become a genre sensation starring in everything from Harry Potter to Horns, The Woman in Black, Victor Frankenstein and more recently Swiss Army Man.

Now, ScreenDaily is reporting that always excellent Samara Weaving will be co-starring. Weaving, who you may remember from “Ash vs. Evil Dead”, announced herself in both Joe Lynch’s Mayhem and McG’s The Babysitter, stealing the show in both.

Howden directs from his screenplay about a lovelorn man whose mundane existence is turned upside-down when he finds himself enrolled in a dark social media movement that forces strangers to fight in a city-wide game of death, live-streamed worldwide to a fanatical audience. A more detailed plot breakdown can be read here.

Production will also take place in Munich, Germany. Occupant Entertainment is producing in association with Pump Metal Films and Ingenious Media on the Germany-New Zealand co-production, with Four Knights Film, New Zealand, as well as Maze Pictures and Occupant Entertainment Germany.

Weaving’s recent credits include Picnic At Hanging Rock and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
