Don Mancini may be a friend of the site, but we’re big time FANS, first and foremost. It was of course Mancini who created a horror icon when he wrote Child’s Play, introducing the world to a killer doll by the name of Chucky. And it’s Mancini who’s been involved with the franchise since the beginning, writing all of the films as well as directing Seed of Chucky, Curse of Chucky and last year’s Cult of Chucky. The reason the franchise has remained in continuity after all these years, and never outright remade? That’d be because of Mancini, whose passion and love for that world hasn’t waned even a tiny bit these past 30 years.
Hell, he’s working on a Child’s Play TV series right now!
Congratulations to @RealDonMancini for your #SaturnAward for special achievement in cinema. Thank you for bringing Chucky into the world. We need Chucky now more than ever! pic.twitter.com/6nXbtUo0m6

In any event, we just wanted to take a moment here today to celebrate the fact that Don Mancini took home the “Special Achievement Award” at last night’s Saturn Awards, an honor bestowed upon him for three decades worth of work on the Child’s Play franchise. Fittingly, Mancini was flanked at the event by his two leading ladies, Jennifer Tilly and Fiona Dourif.
Incredibly well deserved, to say the least.
Other notable genre wins at the Saturn Awards this year include The Shape of Water as Best Fantasy Film, Get Out as Best Horror Film, “The Walking Dead” as Best TV Series, “Twin Peaks” as Best Presentation on Television, Chandler Riggs (“The Walking Dead”) as Best Younger TV Actor and David Lynch (“Twin Peaks”) as Best Guest Star on Television.
On the home entertainment front, Dracula: Complete Legacy Collection won Best BD/DVD Collection Release and Criterion’s Night of the Living Dead won Best BD/DVD Special Edition.
Jason Blum took home the Producer’s Showcase Award.
