Mondo and artist Jason Edmiston have joined forces for a special Jaws screen-print this Summer, which is easily their most ambitious and interesting collaboration to date. Rather than creating a new piece of art for the film, Mondo and Edmiston set out to faithfully recreate Roger Kastel‘s original oil painting; that painting was of course used for one of the most iconic movie posters of all time, but the original painting has actually been missing since the ’70s!
As detailed in depth by Newsweek today, Mondo will be releasing two versions of the art on July 3, both of which will be 24″ x 36″ prints that’ll be limited to just 280 pieces each.
The site explains:
- There’s “JAWS by Roger Kastel,” a recreation of the original Jaws movie poster, with its bright blues and airbrushed away nudity.
- And “‘The Shark’ by Roger Kastel,” which captures the original painting done for the paperback book release, before the addition of text. Later adapted for the movie poster, this version, like the original painting, has a darker, more toned-down color palette.
