While Hulu works on an animated series based on the UglyDolls property, STX Entertainment is gearing up to begin production on the animated feature film UglyDolls, which Robert Rodriguez was originally attached to direct. It looks like Kelly Asbury has taken over as director since we last reported on the project, and we’ve learned some casting news tonight.

Kelly Clarkson and the recently announced Pitbull will lead the cast, with Clarkson playing the role of Moxy and performing original songs for the film.

In the film, Clarkson’s character Moxy and her UglyDolls friends confront what it means to be different, struggle with their desire to be loved, and ultimately discover that you don’t have to be perfect to be amazing because who you truly are is what matters most.

The Ugly Dolls are set to arrive in theaters on May 10, 2019.
