Vera Farmiga Talks Her ‘Godzilla 2’ Character, Who’s Able to “Communicate With the Creatures”

In Trick ‘r Treat director Michael Dougherty’s upcoming Godzilla: King of the Monsters, The Conjuring star Vera Farmiga will be playing the mother to “Stranger Things” star Millie Bobby Brown‘s character, which is something we already knew. Something we didn’t know about Farmiga’s character? She teased the role in a chat with Metro this week.

I play a paleobiologist,” Farmiga told the site, detailing her Dr. Emma Russell. “She has figured out a way to communicate with the creatures and potentially control them using their bioacoustics on a sonar level. So she is like a DJ for the monsters.

The sequel will feature a host of giant monsters: not just the titular King himself, but also Mothra, Rodan, and G’s ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah! The film promises to be pretty epic, with star O’Shea Jackson Jr. recently teasing that we’ll “never forget” the final battle between Godzilla and King Ghidorah.

In King of the Monsters

“When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.”

Zhang Ziyi, Kyle Chandler, Bradley Whitford, Ken Watanabe, Thomas Middleditch, Charles Dance and Aisha Hinds also star.

Dougherty directed from a script he wrote with Zach Shields.

Godzilla will return to theaters on May 31, 2019.
