Last year’s Kong: Skull Island and next year’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters both exist in the same shared universe, Legendary’s MonsterVerse, so it stands to reason that we can expect some connections between the two films. After all, now is the time to bridge the gap in some very direct ways, as the plan is for the two monsters to do battle in 2020.

What kind of connections can we expect? Speaking with Rotten Tomatoes, director Michael Dougherty teased that a character from Skull Island will appear in King of the Monsters!

We do bring back one character from Kong: Skull Island,” Dougherty told the site. “You’ll have to see the movie…

The most popular fan theory is that Charles Dance plays James Conrad in the film, Tom Hiddleston’s character from the ’70s-set Skull Island. Just a theory, but a plausible one. At the very end of Skull Island, Conrad is recruited by Monarch, the group that serves as the connective tissue between all MonsterVerse films. So the theory certainly has legs.

Warner Bros. has set a May 31, 2019 date for Godzilla’s return.

The sequel takes place five years after the events in the first film

“When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.”

Zhang Ziyi, Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Bradley Whitford, Ken Watanabe, Thomas Middleditch, Charles Dance and Aisha Hinds star.

Dougherty directed from a script he wrote with Zach Shields.

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has four awesome cats. Still plays with toys.
