After getting my first taste of Panos Cosmatos’s Mandy via the original trailer, my description was that it looked like a Dario Argento-directed take on Hellraiser… starring Nicolas Cage as a badass, chainsaw-wielding Cenobite-slayer. That description suits the new Japanese trailer better than any other trailer to date, and it’s pretty goddamn spectacular.
Scott Weinberg reviewed the film for us, calling it a “grimly alluring fever dream.” He added, “If you’re hoping for a big fat amalgamation of action, horror, pitch black comedy, bittersweet romance, and that wonderfully sweet smell of sheer unpredictability, hell, Mandy might just be your new favorite movie of the year.”
In Mandy, arriving in theaters on September 14…
“Pacific Northwest. 1983 AD. Outsiders Red Miller and Mandy Bloom lead a loving and peaceful existence. When their pine-scented haven is savagely destroyed by a cult led by the sadistic Jeremiah Sand, Red is catapulted into a phantasmagoric journey filled with bloody vengeance and laced with fire.”
The cast also includes Andrea Riseborough, Linus Roache, Ned Dennehy and Olwen Fouéré with Richard Brake and Bill Duke.
Panos Cosmatos wrote the script with Aaron Stewart-Ahn.
