Infographic Map Highlights the Horror Movie Each State is Most Obsessed With
With Halloween right around the corner, Streaming Observer was curious to find out which horror movies are hottest in each state, so they went ahead and did some research and whipped up a fun little infographic map of the United States to share their findings with us.
How does one figure out such things, you ask?
The team explains, “Using data from Rotten Tomatoes, proprietary Amazon MTurk surveying, and other public sources, we compiled a list of the most popular horror movies of all time. Then, we partnered with Mindnet Analytics and used Google Trends data to determine which horror movie each state was most obsessed with relative to other states.”
Some of the findings are hardly surprising – Texas Chain Saw Massacre, naturally, is Texas’ favorite horror movie, while the Maryland-set The Blair Witch Project is hottest in, well, Maryland – but what accounts for, let’s say, Drag Me to Hell being so beloved in Mississippi and The Babadook being so popular in Wyoming? Your guess is as good as ours!
Check out the infographic below, along with a heat map that shows general horror movie popularity state-by-state across the United States. It’s all very interesting, if nothing more.
