He admits it’s unlikely to happen, it’s important to note right off the bat, but Mandy director Panos Cosmatos just noted in a chat with Indiewire that he does at least have an idea for a sequel to this year’s Nicolas Cage-starring revenge flick. If he ever gets around to making Mandy 2, Cosmatos says, the film could pit Cage’s Red Miller up against… Nazis?!
“When I was writing the film, to amuse myself, I imagined a sequel that took place with Red Miller fighting Nazi punks in a bombed-out city,” Cosmatos told the site. He added, “I don’t know if that would ever happen, but it’s a fun thought.”
Cosmatos continued, speaking about sequels in general, “The thing I do miss about the way some sequels were in the past was that each film felt like its own unique, complete tone. Now, sequels are tonal facsimiles of the ones before them, like a television series, whereas back in the past sequels would often be radically different from the ones before.”
Mandy hits DVD and Blu-ray next Tuesday, October 30.
