Margot Robbie will be leading the cast of WB/DC’s “girl gang” movie Birds of Prey as Harley Quinn, and we recently learned that Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollett-Bell will be starring alongside Robbie in the Cathy Yan-directed film. This week, Yan confirms what we had been hearing: the film is targeting an “R” rating!
Yan also teased this week, “I could not put the script down, it had so much dark humor to it which a lot of my work does, and there are themes of female empowerment which are so strong and relatable.”
Winstead will play Huntress, with Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary. The role of Cassandra Cain is not yet cast. Rosie Perez is the latest to come aboard, playing Renee Montoya.
Christina Hodson is working on the script. Robbie is also producing.
Birds of Prey has been dated for February 7, 2020.
