The National Board of Review, “an organization dedicated to discussing and selecting what its members regard as the best film works of each year,” just announced its winners for 2018, which are broken down into categories similar to the Oscars. No horror films *won* any awards from the board this year, but it’s pretty cool to note that John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place landed on their list of “Top Films” for the year, alongside Black Panther and A Star is Born.
The board’s full list of Top Films for 2018 includes:
- The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
- Black Panther
- Can You Ever Forgive Me?
- Eighth Grade
- First Reformed
- If Beale Street Could Talk
- Mary Poppins Returns
- A Quiet Place
- Roma
- A Star Is Born
It’s also worth noting that the acclaimed internet thriller Searching (available on Blu-ray today) landed on the National Board of Review’s list of Top 10 Independent Films.
John Krasinski is currently penning the sequel to A Quiet Place.
